What is estate planning?

I like to think of estate planning as not just writing up a will for example, but also trying to protect your assets from creditor claims, protect your assets if you need to go into a nursing home and need to apply for Medicaid, and also looking for ways to avoid any kind of probate process at death. We’re doing a number of documents as part of the process. It could be a trust, it could be a will, but also a power of attorney, medical documents like a living will, a healthcare directive. All of that is what I consider part of the estate planning process.
